MISSION

Our lost and found cupboard is full. Lost items will be displayed at the desk by the front door for the next couple of days. Please stop by and see if any of your items are there. At the end of the semester all leftover items will be sent to a charity.

Family Trips      

Please remember to notify the school in writing at least one week prior to the first day of the absence. Students can pick up the family trip form from the front office. Family trips will not be authorized during semester exam week (January 25-28).

TUTORING TIMES AND LOCATIONS

Tutoring Schedule

On Tuesdays & Thursdays from 1500 till 1630, Math tutoring is available. The locations for math tutoring for the coming month is as follows:
Tuesday, 17 November- Mr. Carson (Rm 420); Thursday, 19 November- Mr. Tingey (Rm 418); Tuesday, 24 November- Mr. Bowman (Rm 417).
On Mondays & Wednesdays, there is an all subjects tutoring session in Ms. Sharp's room (429 in the portables) with Ms. Sharp and community volunteers that runs from 1500 till 1630. 
Students who require additional assistance/time are encouraged to attend. Attendance rosters are maintained for each session.
In the event that tutoring is cancelled, it will be announced during the school day. Verification of a cancellation of tutoring may confirmed by calling the front office at DSN 430-7191

Showcase Magazine 2010

Showcase is a beautifully produced collection of the best Art and Literature from students in DoDDS-Europe. For guidelines and applications, please see Mr. Church in room 111. The deadline for submitting works for consideration is Thursday, January 28th.

Harvard Admissions Officer Visit

Mr. Jake Kaufmann a Harvard College admissions officer will visit our AVID classroom Wednesday, November 18, 8-11 to talk to our AVID students about Harvard College and college admissions. If you would like to attend, please contact the Guidance office.

H1N1 Vaccine

The clinic has not received the H1N1 vaccine intended for students yet, so there will be no vaccine administered on 19 Nov as previously advertised at the high school. As soon as the clinic receives word on when it will arrive, another date will be set up and published. If you have already completed the consent and screening forms, please keep them until the new date.

HANDBOOK HIGHLIGHTS: TARDINESS (BY QUARTER)

Highlights from the Student Handbook will be Featured Here

Passing time between classes is five minutes.  Students must be in the classroom ready to work when the starting bell chimes or they will be counted tardy. Students who are more than 20 minutes late for no reason will be considered truant.  Students who are detained by school officials and consequently late to class will be given a hall pass.  Students who arrive late to school for the day will report to the office where they will sign in and be given an admit slip to class.
The following disciplinary consequences apply quarterly:
Four tardies:  1.5 hours after school detention 
Six tardies:  Suspension. Conference
Eight or more: Suspension. Conference
Alternate means of discipline will be considered for repeat offenders.

MEETINGS

Teen Council

There will be a Teen Council Meeting from 1530 -1615 on November 20th at the Hub. Teen Council promotes positive teenage development through soliciting their input on a variety of Programs in the Stuttgart Garrison Community.

Graduating Seniors Class of 2010/Graduation Caps and Gowns

All graduating seniors planning to participate in the graduation ceremony in June must have a Patch High School graduation cap and gown. Graduation caps and gowns can be ordered at Jostens.com. Graduation order packets are available in the Guidance office. Deadline to order is December 5! After December 5 prices go up!

SAT & ACT

If you need to take the SAT or ACT this fall, register before the deadlines. Both the College Board website and the ACT website are great resources for college preparation, career planning, test preparation and researching scholarships and financial aid. Register for the SAT at www.collegeboard.com and the ACT at www.actstudent.org.

Official Transcripts

Seniors, see your counselor Mr. Engel (A-L) and Ms. Kunstman (M-Z) for official transcripts. Your official transcript includes your current senior class schedule, class rank, and a School Profile.

ACT International Test  Fee Waiver

ACT International Test  Fee Waiver- Before you register for the ACT pick up an International Test Fee Waiver from the Guidance office. This waiver exempts Patch students from paying the additional international fee.                                                                   

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Solomon Lodge John Richardson Memorial Scholarship

Graduating seniors planning to attend college can apply for this $1,000 scholarship. Sports participation and school and community service required. Applications must be returned to the Guidance office no later than January 5, 2010. Applications are available in the Guidance office.

The American Legion’s National High School Oratorical Contest

All high school students are eligible to compete in the American Legion’s Oratorical Contest. Students who win the local Stuttgart competition receive a cash award and are eligible to compete in the Depart of France contest and possible the American Nationals Scholarships competition.  Application deadline is January 4, 2010. Applications are available in the Guidance office.

German-American Youth Weekend Seminar

Wintertime Benediktbeuern 2010 - from 12-15 Feb 2010 (sponsored by the German American Federation) at the youth hostel within the Benediktbeuern Monastery, 60 km south of Munich, Cost 90 Euro per person (incl 3 nights/room/board).  This seminar will include a choice of skiing, snowboarding (2 yrs exper reqd/own equipment) or a tour of Munich during the day, free time to meet other American and German teens and evening seminars focused on the American School System. If you are interested in attending or have questions, please contact Ute de la Chaux at delachaux@t-online.de.
