Two credits of courses in Professional Technical Studies are required for graduation, a half credit must be in computer technology. We offer a
variety of computer classes including AP distance learning courses.
KEYBOARDING I GRADE LEVEL 9-12
LENGTH OF COURSE 18 WEEKS PREREQUISITE NONE MAJOR
CONCEPTS/CONTENT: Keyboarding I is designed to develop touch
keyboarding skills, to reach potential speed and accuracy levels, and to
apply these skills as a communication tool. Formatting of basic
documents is also included. Recommended before Computer Applications
classes. Elective credit.
KEYBOARDING II GRADE LEVEL 9-12 LENGTH OF COURSE 18
WEEKS PREREQUISITES KEYBOARDING PROFICIENCY AND/OR KEYBOARDING I
MAJOR CONCEPTS/CONTENT: Keyboarding II is designed to refine
touch keyboarding skills, and to build speed and accuracy. Formatting
skills for letters, tables, reports and other documents are covered.
Students will use decision-making skills to evaluate document formats and
mailability.
COMPUTER
APPLICATIONS I GRADE LEVEL 9-12 LENGTH OF COURSE 18 WEEKS
PREREQUISITE KEYBOARING PROFICIENCY AND/OR KEYBOARDING I AND WORD
PROCESSING PROFICIENCY MAJOR CONCEPTS/CONTENT: Computer
Applications is designed to provide students with the opportunity to
extend knowledge of and apply various software applications. Students will
work with spreadsheets, databases, charts, and related graphics.
COMPUTER APPLICATIONS IIGRADE LEVEL 9-12 LENGTH OF
COURSE 18 WEEKS PREREQUISITE COMP APPL I AND KEYBOARDING/WORD
PROCESSING PROFICIENCY MAJOR CONCEPTS/CONTENT: Computer
Applications II is designed to provide the student with the opportunity to
understand and apply various software applications. Emphasis will be on
using and integrating applications (spreadsheets, databases, graphics,
work processing, and presentation software.
WORD PROCESSING GRADE LEVEL 9-12 LENGTH OF COURSE 18
WEEKS PREREQUISITE KEYBOARDING PROFICIENCY AND/OR KEYBOARDING I
MAJOR CONCEPTS/CONTENT: Word Processing is designed for
students who are able to use the touch method in keyboarding. The course
is designed to develop word processing skills with continue emphasizes on
speed building and accuracy. Instruction is included in the following
areas: basic language skills, word processing concepts and terminology,
formatting of various documents, maintenance and care of equipment,
proficiency in the use of at least one word processing software program.
PRESENTATIONS AND PUBLICATIONS GRADE LEVEL 10-12
LENGTH OF COURSE 18 WEEKS PREREQUISITES KEYBOARD PROFICIENCY,
COMPUTER APPLICATIONS I MAJOR CONCEPTS/CONTENT:
Presentations and Publications is a practical course designed for
students with an interest in special computer topics to include desktop
publishing and presentation graphics.
MULTIMEDIA I GRADE LEVEL 10-12 LENGTH OF
COURSE 18 WEEKS PREREQUISITES COMPUTER APPLICATIONS OR STRUCTURED
PROGRAMMING COURSE MAJOR CONCEPTS/CONTENT: Multimedia I is
designed to acquaint students with a variety of multimedia applications. A
variety of technology tools will be used to produce multimedia projects
that include graphics, sound, video, and other appropriate technology. The
emphasis of this course is the production of individual and group
projects.
MULTIMEDIA II GRADE LEVEL 11-12 LENGTH OF COURSE 18
WEEKS PREREQUISITES MULTIMEDIA I MAJOR CONCEPTS/CONTENT:
Multimedia II is designed to provide students an opportunity to apply
their knowledge of conferencing, presentation, and telecommunication
technologies to develop an in-depth multimedia project.
STRUCTURED PROG IN C++I/TELGRADE LEVEL 10-12 LENGTH OF
COURSE 18 WEEKS PREREQUISITE STRUCTURED PROGRAMMING COURSE MAJOR
CONCEPTS/CONTENT: Structured Programming in C++I is designed to
teach students C++ programming concepts using a structured approach.
Problem solving and program documentation will be emphasized. Students
will write original computer programs. The course is done via a computer
and an instructor at an alternate site.
AP COMPUTER SCIENCE A/TEL GRADE LEVEL 11-12 LENGTH OF
COURSE 36 WEEKS PREREQUISITE STRUCTURED PROGRAMMING COURSE MAJOR
CONCEPTS/CONTENT: The course description for the advanced
placement courses published by College Boards is to be used for this
course. This course is done via a computer and an instructor at an
alternate
