School Advisory
CommitteeFrequently Asked Questions
What is SAC? The School Advisory Committee (SAC) is a forum
of interested students, parents, and faculty who meet monthly to
communicate recommendations, concerns or advice to the principal on
educational matters. SAC doesn't make school policy. It is an
advisory board. In advising the principal, we represent the views of
PAHS students, parents, and teachers. Through SAC participation in
the quarterly Installation Advisory Committee meetings, we also keep our
community's leadership aware of issues of concern to us.
Who is on PHS SAC? SAC is your organization. It includes an
equal number of elected parents (of students at PHS) and full-time
professional staff of the school, plus a student's representative chosen
by the student council. PHS SAC's nine (9) voting members include:
one (1) student, four (4) parents, and four (4) teachers. In
addition to the voting members, liaison non-voting membership is extended
to the principal, Federal Education Association (FEA) representative, 6th
ASG Schools’ Officer, Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA), and other
designated organization representatives as determined by the voting
membership. Elections are held at the end of each school year and
positions are held for two years.
How can I give input?
To be effective and representative,
SAC must know the views of students, parents and teachers. Therefore, we
urge all of your to let us know the issues of importance to you. SAC
maintains a box in the PHS office. Issues can be placed in the box
using the SAC input form or sent to the SAC chairperson. Contact
Patch High School for the chairpersons e-mail address.
Does SAC have an Open Forum? The SAC agenda includes an Open
Forum time to raise issues not listed on the agenda, but time is
limited. It's best to let the SAC know issues in advance to put on
the agenda for consideration.
What can SAC do? SAC's purpose is to enhance educational
programs, support services, and quality of life for our children. SAC
addresses issues involving instructional programs and resources, pupil
services, standards of conduct and discipline, school policies,
activities, and admin procedures. We don't address individual
faculty/student issues. The SAC focus’ on general problems or policy
issues.
